Orlando Business Journal
Akerman Senterfitt has been named the top law firm in the country for Hispanic Americans by "MultiCultural Law" magazine.
The firm will receive the award at a reception Jan. 12 to be held in Washington, D.C., and sponsored by Coca-Cola Co.
"Multicultural Law" also ranked Akerman Senterfitt among the Top 100 Law Firms for Diversity, the Top 25 Law Firms for Disabled Americans and No. 4 among the Top 50 Law Firms for Partners, the firm says in a release.
"Throughout the history of the firm, we have promoted diversity and are proud of this prestigious recognition," Chairman and CEO Tom Cardwell says in the release. "As a Florida firm, we have always had a natural connection with Latin American and Hispanic cultures and our attorneys reflect the community in which we live and work."
Akerman Senterfitt is one of the Florida's largest law firms with more than 400 attorneys and governmental advisers servicing local, regional, national and international clients. Its bilingual Hispanic professionals include 59 shareholders, associates and consultants, and it has 131 bilingual Hispanics among its paralegals, consultants, closers and administrative staff members.
The firm recently created a Securities and Exchange Commission advisory group to enhance its corporate compliance practice. The five new attorneys in the group counsel domestic and foreign clients in regulatory and white collar matters, conduct internal corporate investigations, and work closely with government and public affairs groups based in Washington in advising clients confronted with congressional investigations.
Founded in 1920, Akerman is the second-largest law firm in Central Florida, with 85 lawyers in its Orlando office. It also has offices in Tampa, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Tallahassee and West Palm Beach, as well as Washington and New York.
